Team chargeback
Give each team its own keys and budget, and hand finance a monthly report of what each team spent.
Chargeback answers the question finance asks every month: which team spent what on AI. CoreValue answers it from the key each request used, so the split is decided by your setup, not by what each application chooses to report.
Hand this to your developers: each team's services should use that team's CoreValue key. See the OpenAI, Anthropic or Claude Code quickstart.
1. Create the teams
Go to Governance → Access, and below the members list click Create team.
| Field | What it does |
|---|---|
| Name | The team's name, for example Platform. |
| Monthly budget (optional) | The team's ceiling for the month. |
| At the budget | Alert only, Downgrade to a cheaper model or Block requests, or inherit the organisation's action. |
Click the member count on a team's row (for example 3 members) to add the people in it.
2. Give each team its own keys
Spend belongs to the team of the key that made the request. On Governance → Keys, create keys with Generate API key or Create virtual key and pick the Team. For an existing key, set its team in the key's edit dialog, or with Edit caps on Budgets & Limits → Keys.
The Cova-Team-Id header is recorded on the request for your own filtering,
but chargeback and team budgets always use the key's team. A request cannot
move its spend to another team by sending a different header.
3. Set team budgets
With a Monthly budget on each team, a team that runs out is stopped, downgraded or alerted on its own while other teams carry on. See Budget configuration.
4. Send finance the report
Go to Reports → Chargeback.
- Month: any of the last twelve calendar months (UTC).
- Group by: Team, Customer, Model or Flat.
- Download CSV: the same rows with prompt and completion tokens, named
chargeback-YYYY-MM.csv(-provisionalwhile the month is open).
The report shows cost and request counts per team, with revenue and margin where you have set customer prices.
Close month freezes a month's figures so a later download matches what finance received. Months are also closed by a monthly job, and the report shows who closed it and when.
Chargeback covers LLM requests. The cost of MCP tool calls and agent calls is not included in its totals yet.
Who can do this
Viewing the report needs the reports.read permission; closing a month needs
spend_controls.write; creating teams needs org.members.write. Owners and
admins have all three. See Roles and permissions.
